Sidi Ould Tah of Mauritania has emerged as the new President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), following a decisive election that concluded in just three rounds.
Tah secured 76.18% of the votes, defeating four other candidates in a tightly contested process. His closest rival, Samuel Maimbo of Zambia, received 20.26%, while Amadou Hott of Senegal garnered 3.55% of the vote.
With this victory, Sidi Ould Tah becomes the 9th president of the pan-African financial institution and will serve a five-year term.
He succeeds Nigeria’s Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, who completed his tenure after serving two terms as AfDB President, earning global recognition for his leadership.
