Nigeria is gearing up to host the 2025 edition of the West Africa Economic Summit, scheduled to take place from June 20 to 21 at the Abuja International Conference Centre. The two-day event is expected to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, economists, development experts, and investors from across the region to deliberate on strategies for accelerating economic integration and sustainable development in West Africa.

Themed “Empowering Regional Collaboration for Economic Resilience,” the summit aims to address pressing challenges facing the West African economy, including trade barriers, infrastructure deficits, youth unemployment, climate change, and the impact of global financial instability. Participants will explore actionable solutions that promote economic cooperation and self-sufficiency among ECOWAS member states.

According to the organizers, this year’s summit will feature keynote addresses from top government officials, panel discussions on critical sectors such as agriculture, energy, fintech, and manufacturing, as well as networking sessions to foster public-private partnerships. Several regional and international organizations, including the African Union and the African Development Bank, have confirmed their attendance.

The Nigerian government has expressed its commitment to using the platform to showcase investment opportunities, promote economic reforms, and strengthen its leadership role within the ECOWAS subregion. Analysts believe the summit could set the tone for a new era of economic diplomacy, especially as West Africa seeks to rebound from the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising debt levels, and currency fluctuations.

With Abuja poised to become the epicenter of high-level policy dialogue, expectations are high that the summit will lead to concrete resolutions capable of transforming the region’s economic landscape.
