Africa’s wealthiest businessman, Aliko Dangote, has earned a spot on TIME Magazine’s 2025 TIME100 Philanthropy list, a global recognition of individuals making exceptional contributions to humanitarian causes. The billionaire industrialist is the only Nigerian featured on the list, joining a distinguished group of global changemakers committed to positive social impact.

A Lifelong Commitment to Giving Back

Through his charitable arm, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), Dangote has committed over $1.25 billion to initiatives targeting poverty, malnutrition, disease eradication, and education across Africa. Since its endowment in 2014, the foundation has become one of the continent’s largest private philanthropic organizations, disbursing an estimated $35 million annually in support of programs that aim to uplift the most vulnerable.

Transformational Projects Across Africa

Among the foundation’s flagship efforts is a $100 million multi-year initiative focused on the treatment and prevention of severe malnutrition in children. In times of crisis, the ADF has also led major food relief efforts, including the distribution of over one million bags of rice to communities facing hunger in Nigeria.

In collaboration with international partners like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the ADF has played a vital role in Nigeria’s eradication of polio, a milestone officially recognized by the World Health Organization in 2015.

Investing in Education and Future Leaders

Dangote’s dedication to education is evident in his recent pledge of $10 million to support the development of the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology in Kano. The foundation also funds numerous scholarship and vocational training programs and supports African youths through global platforms like the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders initiative.

A Global Titan in Philanthropy

TIME Magazine grouped Dangote under the “Titans” category, celebrating his outsized influence and contributions alongside other global figures such as Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Bloomberg, and Melinda Gates.

His inclusion on the list is a testament to the power of philanthropy in shaping nations and improving lives, especially in regions grappling with economic and health crises.

A Legacy of Impact

Dangote’s recognition by TIME not only honors his individual efforts but also casts a spotlight on the importance of sustainable, Africa-focused philanthropy. Through continued investment in health, education, and economic development, he remains a leading example of how wealth can be transformed into meaningful, long-lasting change.
