A major breakthrough has been recorded in the high-profile case involving the abduction of a 13-year-old girl in Enugu State, as operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have arrested the prime suspect while he attempted to flee the country.
The suspect, identified as Obi, also known as Obu, was apprehended at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road, Lagos, while making an illegal exit into a neighboring country.
According to a statement released by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the arrest was made possible through a diligent stop-and-search operation. The suspect was found in possession of a National Identity slip, which confirmed his identity. Further questioning reportedly led to his confession, linking him to the kidnapping of the 13-year-old girl recently rescued from a ritual shrine in the Ishiagu community of Enugu State.
“The suspect is currently in custody and is being handed over to the police for further investigation,” the statement read.
This development comes after intense manhunt efforts by the police following the discovery of the shrine where the girl was rescued and two decomposing bodies were uncovered, believed to be previous victims of ritual killings.
News of the suspect’s arrest has sparked relief and outrage across social media platforms. Many Nigerians have commended the Immigration Service for their swift action, while others are demanding that justice be swift and public.
“Let him face the full wrath of the law. Enough of these heartless crimes!” one user posted.
“God bless the security operatives who caught this man. We need more of this energy across all agencies,” another wrote.
“Imagine if he had escaped—this is why our borders must be tighter!” echoed one concerned citizen.
With pressure mounting, both the police and immigration authorities have assured the public of a transparent investigation and prosecution of all accomplices linked to the disturbing case.
