The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its nationwide strike, directing all judicial workers to resume duties on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
This decision follows extensive negotiations with key stakeholders, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Motunmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Alhaji Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
JUSUN had initiated the strike on June 2, 2025, to protest the Federal Government’s delay in implementing agreed-upon welfare improvements, including the payment of a five-month wage award, the implementation of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage and its arrears, and a 25/35% salary increase.
In a communiqué issued on June 3, 2025, JUSUN stated that it has agreed to a one-month window for the Federal Government to release the necessary funds to the judiciary. Upon the release of these funds, the union expects the immediate implementation of its demands.
The union emphasized that the decision to suspend the strike was made in consideration of the commitment shown by the CJN and other stakeholders to address the issues at hand. JUSUN has instructed all judiciary workers across the nation to resume their duties as of June 4, 2025.
The suspension of the strike is expected to restore normalcy to court operations nationwide, which had been disrupted since the commencement of the industrial action.
