On June 4, 2025, Netflix announced its third subscription price increase in Nigeria since 2024, citing local market conditions and ongoing investments in content and platform improvements.

Effective immediately, the updated monthly subscription fees are:

  • Premium Plan: ₦8,500 (previously ₦7,000) – a 21.43% increase
  • Standard Plan: ₦6,500 (previously ₦5,500) – an 18.18% increase
  • Basic Plan: ₦4,000 (previously ₦3,500) – a 14.29% increase
  • Mobile Plan: ₦2,500 (previously ₦2,200) – a 13.64% increase

These adjustments reflect Netflix’s broader global pricing strategy, which the company attributes to its commitment to enhancing the user experience through improved content offerings and platform features. In a statement to shareholders, Netflix noted, “As we invest in and improve Netflix, we’ll occasionally ask our members to pay a little extra to reflect those improvements.”

The price hike comes amid Nigeria’s challenging economic climate, characterized by high inflation rates and increased living costs. Additionally, local telecommunications providers have recently raised data prices by 50%, further impacting consumers’ ability to access streaming services.

While Netflix has not explicitly linked the price increase to inflation, the company acknowledges that “price changes are made to respond to local market changes, such as changes to local taxes or inflation.”

Nigeria is not alone in experiencing Netflix subscription fee increases. Similar adjustments have been implemented in other markets, including South Africa, where the Mobile Plan saw a 20% increase in May 2025.

As Netflix continues to expand its global footprint and invest in diverse content, the company maintains that periodic price adjustments are necessary to sustain and enhance its service offerings.
