In a concerted effort to address escalating security challenges, senior military officials from across Nigeria convened in Maiduguri, Borno State, for the First 2025 Bi-Annual Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Conference. The three-day event, held at the MSA Aliyu Hall, Command Guest House, Maimalari Cantonment, aims to evaluate ongoing operations and formulate strategies to combat insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities threatening national stability.

The conference occurs amid a resurgence of Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks in the North East, particularly in Borno State. Addressing the gathering, COAS Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede emphasized the importance of the meeting in delivering strategic foresight and operational alignment. He stated, “This pivotal gathering will deliver strategic foresight, operational alignment, and insight into where military and community engagements converge.”

A significant highlight of the conference was the unveiling of new Vanquish Armoured Tankers, equipped with night vision capabilities, the ability to travel over 80 kilometers on flat tires, and 360-degree protection. These vehicles were handed over to Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, to bolster counter-insurgency efforts in the region.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain resolute despite recent setbacks, encouraging commitment and practical strategies to end insurgency and other crimes. He highlighted the necessity of aligning kinetic and non-kinetic operations with the dynamic nature of the operating environment.

The COAS also acknowledged the sacrifices of fallen soldiers, stating, “The loss of these brave men is deeply regrettable and serves as a painful reminder of the depth of sacrifice that the officers and men of the Nigerian Army continue to make in the defense of our great nation, Nigeria.”

The conference underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing its operational capabilities and fostering inter-agency collaboration to restore peace and security across the nation.
