In a powerful move to strengthen youth empowerment and economic self-reliance, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), through its corporate social responsibility arm—the NNPC Foundation—has empowered 531 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with financial grants and business starter packs.
The empowerment initiative, which took place in Abuja, saw each corps member receive a grant of ₦531,000 alongside essential business equipment tailored to their chosen field. The packages included tools for fashion design, furniture making, information technology, and beauty care. This strategic investment aims to help beneficiaries launch or expand their entrepreneurial ventures after their service year.
Speaking at the event, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, who was represented by the Group Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Roland Ewubare, described the program as part of the company’s commitment to national development through youth empowerment. He emphasized that the grants and kits were not merely gifts but investments in Nigeria’s future.
“This initiative reflects NNPCL’s dedication to building a stronger, self-sufficient generation of Nigerian entrepreneurs,” Ewubare stated. “We believe the best way to secure the future of our nation is to empower its youth today.”
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, was also present at the ceremony. He commended the NNPCL for its continued support and reiterated the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing unemployment among young Nigerians. He encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity and to serve as role models for fellow corps members.
The initiative marks another milestone in the growing collaboration between the NYSC and corporate organizations to equip Nigerian youths with the skills and capital needed to thrive in a competitive economic environment.
