At exactly 8:30 pm on Friday, June 13, 2025, Brigadier-General Olakunle O. Nafiu, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), delivered an impactful address to the 59,000 Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) who were sworn in earlier today at the various NYSC Camps across all 36 States and the FCT to officially commence the NYSC 2025 Batch A, Stream II orientation programme. The speech, delivered virtually Abuja underscored the responsibilities and expectations that come with being a full-fledged members of the NYSC “family.”
General Nafiu began by welcoming the 59,000 PCMs officially registered for this batch, reminding them that they are now Members of the NYSC “family” with a duty to uphold its guiding principles and motto of “Service, Unity, Discipline.” He emphasized that this orientation course a foundational phase designed to prepare them physically, mentally, and socially for the demands of national service.
Highlighting reports from all 37 orientation camps, the DG praised the corps members for their cooperation, discipline, and enthusiastic participation thus far. He noted the high standards being observed across camps, commending the PCMs for their respect of camp protocols and positive attitude.
General Ibrahim then counselled the corps members on the potential pitfalls of social media misuse, warning that, “Social media does not forget.” He urged Corps members to exercise caution in their online communications to avoid actions that could damage their reputations, that of NYSC and Nigeria. He further warned that such has the potential to hinder their future opportunities.
Concern for personal and communal safety was a recurring theme in the DG’s address. He reminded the CMs to remain security-conscious during their stay in camp and their subsequent community service—a directive aimed at fostering a safer and more vigilant service year for all involved CMs
Further, the DG stressed the importance of being good ambassadors, not just for their families, but for the NYSC and Nigeria as a whole. He called on corps members to maintain exemplary conduct within their host communities, demonstrating respect, unity, and discipline in every interaction.
The DG concluded by extending his best wishes to CMs as they embark on the camp’s rigorous programme, urging them to actively engage in lectures, drills, community development initiatives, and cultural activities. He expressed optimism that the orientation experience would mould them into responsible, resilient, and disciplined citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
