In an unexpected turn of events, a middle-aged man identified as Idris Adamu voluntarily presented himself at the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, June 2, 2025. Adamu confessed to offenses including impersonation and obtaining money by false pretenses, citing fear of the EFCC as his motivation for coming forward.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Adamu arrived at the EFCC office around 1:00 PM and requested to speak with the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad. During their meeting, Adamu admitted to defrauding individuals of a total sum of ₦9 million by falsely promising them employment opportunities in various federal government agencies. He expressed remorse for his actions, stating, “I have changed, but I am afraid of the EFCC.”
Following his confession, Adamu was directed to the investigation department for further inquiry. The EFCC has not disclosed additional details regarding the ongoing investigation.
This incident underscores the EFCC’s reputation and the psychological impact it has on individuals involved in fraudulent activities. The commission continues to urge the public to report any suspicious activities and remains committed to combating financial crimes in Nigeria.
