The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that over 200,000 additional candidates scored above 200 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) resit. This improvement follows a rescheduled examination conducted in response to technical and human errors that affected the initial UTME.

The resit was organized after widespread irregularities were reported during the original UTME, particularly in regions like Lagos and the South East. JAMB identified systemic issues, including technical faults and human errors, prompting the rescheduling of exams for approximately 379,000 candidates.

With the resit results, the number of candidates scoring above 200 increased significantly. Previously, over 1.5 million candidates had scored below 200, but this number has now reduced to 1,365,479.

JAMB attributes this improvement to ongoing reforms and increased candidate familiarity with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) system, which has been in place since 2013.

The improved results are expected to positively impact the 2025/2026 tertiary admissions process. JAMB is anticipated to provide further guidance on admissions criteria and processes in the coming weeks.
