The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued an apology for the delay that led to candidates writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at night in various parts of Nigeria. The Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Amos Dangut, explained that the delay was due to logistical issues encountered while attempting to prevent the compromise of examination materials.

Dangut stated that upon receiving information about a potential compromise of the examination paper, WAEC took immediate action to prevent leakage. However, unforeseen logistical problems, including a vehicle breakdown in Taraba State, hindered the timely delivery of exam materials, resulting in the exams being conducted at night.

The incident sparked widespread concern as videos surfaced showing students in states like Taraba and Ogun taking exams late into the night. WAEC has assured the public that measures are being implemented to prevent a recurrence of such delays.
