In a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, called on Nigerian leaders to govern with empathy and a sense of responsibility. He emphasized that power should be viewed as a rare privilege, not a tool for personal gain.
Adeyemi highlighted that many African nations, including Nigeria, are hindered by a leadership culture where a small elite holds onto political power, using it to funnel economic resources for their own benefit. He stressed the need for leaders to shift from self-serving governance to a more inclusive and equitable approach.
He expressed concern over the growing wealth disparity in the country, noting that while a few individuals accumulate unprecedented wealth, the majority of citizens continue to suffer. Adeyemi urged leaders to prioritize the welfare of the masses and to govern with a conscience.
Drawing comparisons to monarchies in the Middle East, he pointed out that despite the absence of democratic systems, development thrives because the ruling elite governs with a sense of responsibility. He lamented that Nigeria’s elite class seems incapable of such selflessness but remained hopeful for change.
Adeyemi concluded by appealing to those in positions of power to add conscience to their governance, emphasizing that true leadership is about service and sacrifice for the betterment of the people.
